MODEL 180 - 19 inch Rack Mounted Dust Monitor

The Model 180 has been designed for continuous unattended and simultaneous  PM 10 ,PM 2.5 and PM 1 dust mass monitoring, values ranging from 0.1 to 1.500 µg/m3

Theory of Operation

The GRIMM Model 107 Environmental Dust Monitoring System provides precise particle size and count measurements, nearly independent of the particle color and moisture. The diagram at right shows the principle.

A defined sample air (1) volume containing suspended  particulates of various sizes is  continuously drawn through a focused laser beam (3). Each scattered signal generated from a single particle is detected at 90 degrees by a high speed photo diode (4). These signals are counted and classified into 15 different size channels by an integrated pulse height analyzer (5), then counted (6) and displayed at intervals of six seconds or one minute (9) (option for longer intervals).

The counts are then converted into a mass distribution and formatted into the appropriate EPA categories  PM 10 ,PM 2.5 and PM 1. Longer time intervals (up twenty-four hours) may be averaged for these one minute data sets.

The optical bench is protected from contamination by a clean sheet of air flow. At each start the system generates a self-test verifying that no drift has occurred.

An automatic flow control system (14) assures constant and pulse free air sampling through the TSP (1) radial symmetrical head shown on page one.

All sampled dust particles collected are stored on a removable PTFE filter (13) for a possible post analysis.

In addition to most of the points listed for the stand-alone version 165 described left, the Model 180 offers the following features:

  • Fully Integrated Optical System in the 19" rack. All controls are located on the front panel, all connections however are on the back. (It should be noted that the dust monitor can hereby not be removed to conduct in-dependent measurements).

  • Analog Data Output (11). All 3 PM- values are simultaneously expressed as a 4-20 mA signal as option available.

  • Data is stored on data logger (10) Presentation is available in the on/off mode. The call-off mode „GY-SITECH" for PC network (12) configurations, however, is also included.

  • Continuous Long Term Unattended Operation can be achieved through replaceable large sample collection filter (13) an exchangeable double capacity air dryer cartridge (15).

  • Easy Maintenance since the dust sampling tube slides into an air inlet permitting easy accessibility.
