GRIMM Dust Sampling Methods

The photo above shows the standard IAQ 1.104 dust monitor. The short radial sampling tube connects to  the air inlet connection (upper right side).  Also shown is an acoustical and optical alarm signal unit attached to the RS-232 port. This item is recommended for very noisy and/or dark industrial environments. The alarm level can be defined by the user.

Occupational Health

Our sampling inlet requirements comply to the Johannesburg Convention and assure air flow rates similar to human inhalation.  The open radial symmetric sampling head has proven to accomplish this requirement.  It is made completely of stainless steel and polished inside.

The complete 1.101 to 1.108 range of instrument can be used for monitoring the workplace. These units are designed to be used with:

  • Over the shoulder strap to monitor dust levels while in motion, especially in larger production places and within hazardous dust areas.

  • Trouble shooting:  locate and pinpoint areas of excessive particulate emission such as vaporization of cooling oil.

  • Research studies:  Primarily epidemiological to determine dangerous particulate sizes and their concentration.

  • Data Transfer:  It is possible to connect via PCMCIA card a mobile or fixed telephone to the monitor which then allows remote operation. (See photograph below)

The above photo shows the stainless steel isokinetic sampler connected to a duct. The use of the support flange (near hand) allows permanent attachment to the duct.

Industrial Applications

For filter efficiency testing with the isokinetic sampler (shown above) by taking test measurements before and after the filter. (For more details ask for our 7.000 FILTER TEST brochure).

Many dust related applications are intended for product improvements, increased shelf life, etc. such as:

  • Food processing control for flower, milling, silos and the transportation of merchandise.
  • Animal housing control for livestock, etc., also in combination with NH3, (see picture page 4 left).
  • Automobile production for IAQ, aerosols and droplet control of cooling material etc.
  • For monitoring the manufacturing process of  pharmaceutical or hospital count concentration.
  • For bacterial concentration correlation monitoring at waste deposits especially food in plastics.
